Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that stimulates healthy blood circulation and rejuvenates the skin by stimulating collagen production. This method improves one’s complexion while diminishing fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and stretch marks.

After microneedling, your skin will be vulnerable to infection due to the punctures involved in the procedure, which makes it essential to have a good aftercare strategy after a microneedling treatment.

What to Expect After Your Microneedling Treatment

After you have a microneedling procedure, some side effects include redness and burning sensations. You might also notice small bumps appearing along where the needles were inserted into your skin which should disappear within 24 hours but could last anywhere between 1-3 days.

It is also normal to notice other side effects such as skin peeling, breakouts, and swelling after a microneedling procedure. However, everyone’s experience varies, so you might not encounter any of these issues at all.

What are the Best Microneedling Devices?

Vivace™

At Levy Dermatology, we use Vivace™ for microneedling procedures. Vivace™ is a handheld device used to create tiny micro-channels in the skin. It delivers advanced radiofrequency and LED light therapy for deep dermal rejuvenation, triggering our body’s self-healing process by producing higher collagen and elastin levels. This reduces fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks & sunspots.

SkinPen®

SkinPen® is an FDA-approved microneedling pen that stimulates collagen production by creating micro-injuries on your skin. This process triggers a natural healing response to renew firmness, smoothness, and softness in problem areas for younger-looking skin.

What Can I Put on My Skin After Microneedling?

After microneedling, it is crucial to use the right skin products to limit the chances of any sort of infection. Here are some factors to take into consideration before choosing a skincare product after microneedling:

  • Avoid using any products containing alcohol such as toners or astringents because they may dry out the skin too much and cause irritation
  • Use only gentle cleanser daily in place of exfoliants while avoiding irritants like scrubs until things calm down with your face
  • Wear sunscreen every day after this treatment so that those UV rays don’t trigger adverse effects on an already sensitive complexion
  • Be careful not to use any scented items
  • Avoid glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids
  • Since microneedling induces inflammation, Retinol A and vitamin C serum should be avoided for the first 72 hours post-treatment. These products can aggravate skin damage caused by micro-abrasions that heal in this timeframe
  • You can use products that contain hyaluronic acid
