How Do Injectables Work?
Botox® is a purified form of botulinum toxin A. This FDA-approved injection treats and prevents wrinkles by temporarily blocking signals from your nerves to your muscles, effectively preventing them from contracting. As a result, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is reduced, and signs of aging are removed.
Dermal fillers correct volume loss in your face to smooth out fine lines and restore the facial structure. Fillers add volume and fullness by injecting a substance that naturally occurs in our bodies (usually hyaluronic acid gel or calcium hydroxylapatite) in the trouble area.
What Areas Do These Injectables Treat?
The primary focus of Botox® is to minimize and prevent creases and wrinkles caused by repetitive facial expressions. The upper face, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines are the most commonly treated areas.
Fillers are designed to plump areas that have lost volume. A variety of fillers are available to fill in recessed scars, soften static wrinkles around the mouth and nose, and plump up thinning lips and cheeks.
The benefit of these products addressing different problem areas is that they can often be combined into one treatment. Talk to your Levy Dermatology Provider about how a combination approach might be right for you.
