Laser hair removal is an ideal alternative to temporary solutions like shaving and waxing– it’s quick, it lasts longer, and best of all, is far better on the skin. With regular treatments, you have the ability to keep unwanted hair from growing back.
At Levy Dermatology, we use the BBL Sciton laser. This laser works by targeting the hair follicles and administering pulses of bright light which cause the dark hair follicles to absorb the heat. Eventually, the follicles overheat and the targeted hair falls out. In addition to removing unwanted hair, the BBL Sciton laser has the ability to alter the growth patterns, ensuring a long period between treatments.
Treatment is quick and relatively painless. Your Levy Dermatology Provider will ensure the most efficient treatment possible – treatments will be 10-45 minutes depending on the size of the targeted area. Patients report minimal pain and if pain is a concern, topical numbing agents are available.
Laser hair removal requires no downtime after treatments. You can expect a little post-treatment redness, but it should clear up within a week. You might notice that you will require fewer shaves in between treatments. Each consecutive session will produce a significant improvement.
You will require follow-up treatments to achieve ideal results. We recommend 6-weeks in between treatments and 6-treatments altogether for optimal results, but your particular treatment regimen may be slightly different. The BBL Sciton laser interrupts the hair growth cycle, slowing down the regrowth process. With consistent treatment, the growth process can be halted for extended periods of time. Hair that regenerates will also be lighter than before and therefore less visible. While it isn’t exactly permanent, your hair removal process will benefit from occasional maintenance treatments.
Ideal candidates for the BBL Sciton laser treatments will have thicker, darker hair– dark hair best absorbs the energy emitted from the laser. Laser treatments can be done anywhere on the body.
