How Long Does Microneedling Take to Heal?

Microneedling

The effects of time, sun damage, and environmental exposure can damage your skin’s collagen, and we make less of this important protein as we age. Microneedling triggers renewed collagen generation for firmer, healthier skin. This skin rejuvenation treatment can improve many skin concerns with long-lasting results and little downtime.

What is Microneedling for Skin Rejuvenation?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that creates tiny channels in the skin. These channels trigger the body’s natural healing response, producing new collagen, an essential protein that helps keep the skin firm and youthful. The cells that respond to the sites of controlled injury trigger new cell development, making skin look younger and brighter.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Your Levy Dermatology provider uses a microneedling pen or handpiece to administer your treatment. Microneedling works by creating channels that trigger your skin to react with a natural healing response. As a result, cells deep in the dermis increase their collagen production, leading to tighter, smoother skin. You can see fewer lines and wrinkles, less hyperpigmentation, and improved skin texture with a series of treatments.

How Long Does Microneedling Take to Heal?

The healing time for microneedling varies depending on the depth of the treatment and your unique skin type. You can expect some minor redness and mild swelling for a day or two after the treatment. The skin may also feel dry and flaky as it heals. However, most people can return to normal activities immediately after the treatment.

The days following microneedling provide the perfect opportunity to treat your skin with serums and other beneficial ingredients. These treatments will use the channels to reach the skin more deeply, leaving it hydrated and softer. You will start to see microneedling results after several weeks, with full results after a few months

Are There Different Kinds of Microneedling?

Your Levy Dermatology team offers several microneedling options to help you achieve the best results. We will help you determine which method will work best for you during your assessment.

RF Microneedling

This type of microneedling uses radiofrequency (RF) energy. This type of energy travels into the deeper layers of the skin, triggering more collagen production for more noticeable results and skin firmness.

Microneedling With PRP

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) uses healing factors extracted from a sample of your blood. Applying it to the skin after microneedling speeds healing and help the skin look firmer and smoother.

SkinPen®

This precision microneedling pen targets specific areas of concern for dramatic results. This device lets your provider customize your treatment in unique ways to treat concerns like fine lines and acne scars.

How Many Microneedling Treatments Will I Need?

The number of required microneedling treatments will depend on the individual’s skin type and specific skin concerns. Most people will require a series of three to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. People with more severe skin concerns may require additional treatments.
