How Do Laser Treatments Reverse Sun Damage?

Bbl Broadband Light Memphis

Your face and some other parts of your body spend a lot of time exposed to the sun. UV rays cause the breakdown of collagen, leading to lines and wrinkles. It also triggers uneven pigmentation and age spots. You can reverse many of these signs of sun damage with laser treatments. Lasers can resurface the skin to remove signs of sun damage and trigger collagen production.

What is Laser Treatment for Sun Damage?

If your skin has started to show signs of sun damage that does not respond to at-home skincare, laser treatments offer a way to rejuvenate your skin and restore a fresh, youthful skin tone. While you have many laser options available, at Levy Dermatology, we consider BBL™ BroadBand Light treatment the gold standard for treating sun damage

What is BBL™ BroadBand Light Treatment?

BBL™ laser treatments use broad-spectrum light at high energy to target pigmented areas like age spots, sun damage, or redness. Unlike most systems that use one targeted wavelength, the BBL™ broadband light can target more different pigments for a more even skin tone. The Levy Dermatology team prefers this treatment for reversing signs of sun damage due to its effectiveness in targeting pigments and uneven skin tone. BBL™ works on the face, neck, arms, hands, legs, and chest, where sun damage most often occurs.

How Do Laser Treatments Reverse Sun Damage?

When pulses of intense light from the BBL™ enter the skin, they are absorbed by pigment molecules in the skin. This damages the pigment-containing cells without affecting the surrounding skin. It also heats the surface layer of skin to promote cell turnover, bringing revitalized new skin cells to replace the old ones. Sun-damaged or pigmented cells are removed, leaving the skin brighter and clearer.

What Results Will I See With BBL™ BroadBand Light?

You will need several treatments to achieve your best results. Most people benefit from four to six treatments three to four weeks apart. You will see results after your first treatment, but they will continue to improve with each following treatment. You can see improvements in:

  • Sun damage
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Freckles

Many people find that one to two BBL™ treatments a year maintain youthful brightness and even tone.

Is There Any Downtime With Laser Treatment for Sun Damage?

Your skin may look red and flushed for a few hours after treatment. If you have had pigmented sun damage treated, you will notice your spots darken, then flake and peel off over a week. Your skin will need consistent sun protection in the weeks after treatment
