Which Areas on the Body are FDA-Approved for CoolSculpting?

Even when following healthy lifestyle habits, there are certain areas on our body that are simply non-responsive to diet and exercise. If you’re feeling frustrated by stubborn fat pockets, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans are bothered that extra 5-10 pounds that just won’t go away.

Enter CoolSculpting. The procedure helps men and women achieve a slimmer, more contoured physique with a short, in-office appointment. CoolSculpting is a safe and effective fat-reduction procedure that uses controlled freezing technology to zap unwanted fat cells for good. Because treatments are completely non-invasive, there’s no pain or downtime required.

FDA Approvals

The treatment was first FDA-approved in 2010 solely for reducing fat in the flank (or love handle) region. Since then, it’s slowly gained clearance for an additional seven areas thanks to overwhelmingly positive results in clinical trials.

CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for the following eight areas; abdomen, flanks, thighs, bra fat, back fat, banana roll, and most recently the upper arms. Thanks to the latest advancements in CoolSculpting technology, the specialized CoolMini applicator is FDA-cleared to target smaller pockets of fat such as targeting submental fullness (under-chin fat).

Many doctors and specialists are finding other ‘off-label’ uses for the fat-reduction procedure as well. For example, CoolSculpting has shown promising results for reducing fat in the lateral chest (“bra fat”). The CoolMini also works well for nixing problematic ankle and knee fat.

Results from CoolSculpting start to become evident in just several weeks with continued improvement over the course of two months as your body flushes out dead fat cells. You may need anywhere from 2-4 CoolSculpting sessions to achieve an optimal outcome.

Once existing fat cells are gone, they’re unable to return. However, it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prolong the outcome of your treatment and prevent future fat from forming. Touch-up treatments can safely be done on an annual basis or as needed.
