Have you recently been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma?

Mohs Micrographic Surgery is a highly specialized technique designed to effectively remove skin cancer. The procedure allows for maximum results with increased cure rates while minimizing damage to the surrounding tissue.

How Does Mohs Work?

Mohs surgery offers the highest cure rate – up to 99% according to – and boasts the lowest re-growth rate compared to other skin cancer treatments. During treatment, your Levy Dermatology provider meticulously works to remove one layer of skin cancer at a time. Each specimen is then reviewed under a microscope until no cancer-containing tissue remains.

The process is repeated as many times as necessary to ensure all cancerous cells are gone. The wound is then reconstructed and closed.

Am I a Good Candidate for Mohs Surgery?

Mohs is the most exact and precise method of skin cancer removal. If you’ve recently been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma, we strongly recommend Mohs Surgery at Levy Dermatology.

Treatment times are near impossible to anticipate thus we recommend you clear your schedule for the day and plan to spend it with us. You can learn more about how to prepare for Mohs surgery here.

Is There Any Pain or Downtime?

During your treatment, a local anesthetic can be administered to help ease any pain you might experience.

Downtime is dependent upon the location and amount of tissue being removed. Our team will discuss proper wound care and customize a recovery plan according to your individual procedure. In many cases, you’ll be able to return to most normal activities within 24-48 hours following your surgery. Patients that have sutures placed on the skin surface will need to come in for removal in about 7-14 days.
