What is Hair Loss?

Hair loss can be an emotional and very common problem in both men and women. If you’re facing hair loss the earlier you address it, the greater the chance to restore your hair. One of the most common consultations we perform is the evaluation of hair loss.

Hair loss is a multi-factorial problem that needs a thorough medical examination, detailed patient history, and possibly a scalp biopsy (if the disease is evident). Hair loss can be the result of genetics, extreme stress or shock to the body, toxic substances (like radiation or chemotherapy), hormonal changes, or autoimmune conditions such as alopecia areata.

How Do I Treat Hair Loss?

What Results Will I See?*

Is There Any Downtime?*

Initial evaluation by one of our board-certified dermatologists is important so that underlying conditions that might be causing or contributing to the problem can be excluded. Dermatological treatment for hair loss may include prescription topical and/or oral medications. We may also recommend a change to your hair or skincare regimen to support hair loss treatment and prevent further hair loss. Some hair thinning is caused by conditions that aren’t readily treated with medication. We may recommend a combination of topical and oral medications and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, which uses the platelets in your own blood to naturally improve hair loss.

Whatever the causes of your hair loss, your Levy Dermatology Provider will offer you the best possible treatment options that are safe and proven for your individual situation.

No two patients have the same outcome from hair loss treatment. The results you’ll see vary based on the type of hair loss as well as the treatment chosen. Some patients may see results in weeks but many treatments can take months to see any significant results.

Exact downtime may vary depending on your treatment, but most of our hair loss treatments require no downtime.
