Are you tired of waxing or shaving? Unwanted body hair removal wastes time and money. You can put an end to this tiresome task with laser hair removal. This treatment stops hair from growing, so you can expect your smooth skin to last for months or years before needing a touch-up.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Hair grows from a root that rests inside a hair follicle. These tiny structures inside the dermis nourish the hair root to produce hair growth. The BBL™ Sciton laser targets melanin pigments that give hair its color. The laser energy causes the melanin in the hair to heat up, damaging the follicle and stopping hair growth. Hairs stay gone for months or years, and those that do return will look fine, thin, and soft.

What is Laser Hair Removal Like?

The BBL™ Sciton laser works on almost any body part where hair can grow, including the face and bikini area. The laser energy targets the hair roots, not the skin. You may feel a sensation like a rubber band slapping the skin. Most people find laser hair removal very tolerable and have no problem returning for their entire series of treatments.

What to Expect After Laser Hair Removal

Immediately after laser hair removal, the treated hair follicles will stop working, and the hair will fall out. You may have some redness or skin sensitivity during the first day or two after treatment, and you should protect your healing skin from sun exposure. After each treatment, you will see less hair regrowth until you achieve smooth, hair-free skin

How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Will I Need?

The laser can only treat some hair follicles at a time. Follicles go through active and resting phases. During the resting phase, the follicle does not contain a hair root. The laser cannot target these empty follicles. With each treatment, the laser will treat new active growth. For most people, six treatments can achieve full hair removal.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

You can make your laser hair removal more effective by preparing for your treatment in advance.

  • Avoid waxing or plucking, which removes the hair root, for four weeks before your treatment session.
  • Do not bleach your hair for four weeks before treatment, since this removes the melanin from the hair root.
  • Shave before treatment to keep your skin cool and comfortable while the laser works on your hair follicles.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

If you have unwanted facial or body hair, you may be a good candidate for laser hair removal. Ideal candidates have hair noticeably darker than their skin. People with pale red, blond, or gray hair may not make good candidates since their hair lacks enough melanin.
