Acne treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Each person’s acne has its own unique features, so at Levy Dermatology, we will customize your acne treatment plan using all the tools we have available.

What is Acne?

When dirt, oil, and bacteria become trapped inside your pores, acne can result. The most common signs of acne are blackheads and whiteheads. While whiteheads remain enclosed under the skin, blackheads are open to the air and have become oxidized. People can also develop pustules and cysts, which can grow large, painful, and leave scars.

What Treatments are Available to Get Rid of Acne?

At Levy Dermatology, we often recommend one or more of these treatment methods:

Topical Treatments

We can recommend excellent dermatologist-selected topical treatments that people can use at home to get better control of their acne and keep their skin healthier.

Prescriptions

For some people, prescription medications may help with acne. These can include antibiotics to target the bacteria that cause inflamed acne and may also include prescription retinoids. These can have dramatic results on severe acne but can also have serious side effects.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

We use the Halo™ by Sciton laser resurfacing system, which allows us to customize the intensity and type of treatment you receive. Most patients report that the pulses of the laser feel like being snapped by a rubber band. Treatments take about  30 minutes for a light treatment or up to an hour for a very intensive one.

Microneedling

We offer two types of microneedling, both effective against acne and acne scars. The SkinPen® is a small handheld device that provides precise, targeted microneedling, making it suitable for treating specific affected areas of the face.

Vivace™ RF Microneedling uses microneedling but also applies radiofrequency (RF) energy, stimulating more collagen production and helping to refresh and rejuvenate the skin’s surface.

Juvederm®

Some people have both active acne and older acne scars. In some cases, we may recommend a dermal filler like Juvederm® to lift and reduce the appearance of these scars, making the skin look smoother.

What are the Benefits of Acne Treatment?

For many people, clear skin without acne or scarring feels liberating. Acne can have a harsh effect on a person’s self-esteem, social life, and activities. Having acne finally under control can give people a huge boost in confidence.

Clearing acne also prevents acne scarring. Sometimes difficult to treat, scars from severe acne can remain long after the breakout is over. The best way to treat these scars is to prevent them by controlling the acne.

Am I a Candidate for Acne Treatment?

If you have acne, we can help you treat it. At Levy Dermatology, we manage every type of acne in people of all ages, and you will certainly be a good candidate for one or more of our treatments.
