How Long Do the Benefits of Microneedling Last?

Loss of collagen with age can lead to many changes in the skin, including laxity, lines, and wrinkles. Microneedling restores youthful collagen levels for firmer, smoother skin. Microneedling also treats concerns like hyperpigmentation and sun damage for complete skin rejuvenation.

What is Microneedling for Skin Rejuvenation?

Microneedling is a treatment that uses micro-needles to create tiny channels in the skin. These microchannels trigger a healing response that increases collagen production. Microneedling has been called “collagen induction therapy” for its remarkable ability to restore collagen levels for younger-looking skin. Your Levy Dermatology provider will precisely control the depth and intensity of your treatment for maximum benefits.

Microneedling Benefits Memphis

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling uses the body’s natural healing responses to restore your youthful skin. It works by triggering your cells to release a flood of healing factors. These healing factors bring healthy, vibrant new cells to the surface while triggering collagen production in the deeper layers. This new collagen adds to your skin’s support structure, making it look smoother and tighter.

How Long Do the Benefits of Microneedling Last?

Most people will need three to six microneedling treatments to see optimal results. Microneedling benefits can last a year or more. Factors that affect how long your results last include:

  • Your skincare routine
  • How well you protect yourself from the sun
  • Your skin’s unique response
  • The types of skin concerns treated
  • The number of initial treatments

We will recommend skincare products that can help encourage collagen production and keep your results looking vibrant. Occasional maintenance treatments can keep your skin looking firm and healthy.

What Types of Microneedling Can I Get?

At Levy Dermatology, we offer the unique, FDA-approved SkinPen®. This precision device allows your provider to target your problem areas. We also offer two types of RF microneedling, Vivace™ and Morpheus8®, that use radiofrequency energy. The addition of radiofrequency energy allows microneedling to affect deeper layers of the skin for even more collagen production.

Is There Any Downtime With Microneedling?

Microneedling typically has little to no downtime. The skin may be red and slightly swollen for a few hours to a day after the treatment, but this should subside quickly. It is important to avoid sun exposure and to use sunscreen after the treatment to protect your developing collagen from breakdown by UV rays. Avoid harsh cleansers or scrubs for a few days after treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Many people looking for skin rejuvenation choose microneedling because of its minimal downtime and collagen-generating properties. Good candidates for microneedling have reasonable expectations and are in good health. Microneedling may not be right for you if you have a skin infection or tend to form abnormal scars.
