Sun damage affects people at any age, and causes brown spots, mottled redness, dilated skin vessels, yellowing of the skin, and wrinkles, not to mention it can also speed up signs of aging. While all of these skin conditions can be frequently seen on people in our area, it does not mean that they have to be permanent. BroadBand Light is one of the newest and most innovative methods to effectively treat sun damage.

What is BroadBand Light?

BroadBand Light (BBL) is a revolutionary light-based technology that significantly reduces sun damage and signs of aging. It is a gentle, non-ablative IPL laser that never breaks the skin, providing you with quick and noninvasive phototherapy results.

How does BroadBand Light work?

The BBL laser sends targeted blasts of bright light at extremely high energy levels through a handheld device. The laser utilizes broad-spectrum light to deliver the treatments to the specific areas of sun damage the patient wishes to repair, with the most common areas of treatment being the face, neck, back of the hands, chest, and shoulders.

What happens during a BroadBand Light procedure?

First, the light energy delivered by the laser slowly heats up the top layers of skin. The heat that is absorbed by the skin will stimulate the cells to regenerate new collagen production, resulting in a firmer skin texture. The photothermal energy also eliminates dilated skin vessels and redness, restoring the skin’s natural colors and smoothness. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes and requires minimal to no downtime.

What results can I expect from a BroadBand Light treatment?

Immediately following treatment, you may notice some skin redness and you should avoid direct sun exposure until you are completely healed. While some improvement may be seen after the first BBL treatment session, the most optimal results are achieved after 4 to 6 treatments. It is recommended that these treatment sessions be spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart to provide ample time for the skin to heal.
