What is the Sciton Laser System?
The Sciton Laser is a multi-purpose laser that can help you restore your achieve the youthful appearance and improve the texture, tone, and feel of your skin. The two most popular modalities are the MicroLaser Peel and ProFractional. These two treatments can be combined at the same time for maximal benefit. This system can be used on the face, neck, chest, and hands.
What is the difference in these two treatments?
The MicroLaser Peel is an ablative rejuvenation process. It removes the top layers of the skin, removing many unwanted effects of years in the sun. Patients report a glowing, healthier appearance to the skin and a tighter texture.
The ProFractional component bores tiny channels deeper into the skin, stimulating new collagen synthesis. This new collagen is generated over time, so the effects are not immediate. You will see improvements for months to come.
Results can be obtained in just one treatment; however, multiple treatments are often necessary. The number of treatments will vary from patient to patient and the condition being treated. Your physician can personalize a plan based on your specific needs and may choose to combine ProFactional Therapy with other aesthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment.

What are the risks of the MicroLaser Peel and Profractional Treatments?
Risks include bleeding, swelling, bruising, and minor skin infections. Eye shields are used to protect your eyes during the procedures.
What is the recovery period after a treatment?
This is a serious laser surgical treatment. You will need to plan for 4-7 days of downtime as your new skin is healing and regenerating. Your Dermatologist may offer you some pain medication to help during the procedure and can do special anesthetic injections to help with the discomfort. They may also offer a cold air blower during the procedure to help reduce pain.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. A laser handpiece will be positioned gently on the skin. When the laser energy is applied, you will hear a rapid succession of snapping sounds. The handpiece will be moved around to adjacent locations until the entire treatment are has been covered. The procedure normally takes 15 to 30 minutes.
Will it be uncomfortable?
ProFractional therapy is widely regarded as a comfortable procedure, usually tolerated with the use of a topical numbing cream or local anesthetic,depending on the depth of the treatment.
What should I expect immediately after the treatment?
Immediately following the procedure, you may experience mild redness and a sensation resembling sunburn. Your physician will advise you on specific after-treatment care recommendations, which may include analgesics and application of an ointment to keep the skin moist.
What aftercare will I need?
You may be given skin care products and instructions on how to use them. Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light after the procedure, so you must avoid direct sun exposure.
